Well its my last working day this year today and wooop! - I intend to leave just after lunch.
Have a very Merry Christmas readers and a happy and sucessful new year.
I myself will be relishing having relaxing 'me' time where I can read a book cover to cover in a day and sleep in til noon if I wish because in just a few months I won't have that luxuary anymore. BUT I will have something rather more exciting!
Lorris xx
Our christmas tree is up and it is a thing of beauty. Fitting a six foot spruce into a ford Ka was interesting but we got it home in one piece and with S and I still on speaking terms.
On Saturday we popped into town (hideous) and I collected our holly wreath and mistletoe. The holly was handy to bash people on the leg with when they tried to rudely shove past me. Ha!
The on Saturday night we went for dinner in a local pub. I was sat in the bar sipping my lime and soda when I felt quite rough. I ran to the loo, was spectacularly sick and then came back and ate my dinner, no problems. I am gross.
Oh and I was sick yesterday AND this morning - yuk.
I feel dead chirpy today. The main reason for this is that I have finished a biiiiiig piece of work that has been hanging over me for weeks, nay MONTHS. Of course when I actually put my mind to it, it was neither as hard or as big as I had imagined. Horrah!!
Now all I have to do is tidy my desk and prepare for christmas lunch at the library tomorrow. And then its next week, and then its nearly christmas -5 working days left!
I also must call the registrar and book and appointment. My wedding is creeping up on me.
Today I threw up after thinking I was done with the sickiness, still, once a fortnight I can deal with.
Our livingroom is now a thing of beauty after all S's hard work (I did varnish the floor x 3 though, I'm not a total lazy loser!). We'll get our tree on saturday and I can't wait to make it all pretty.
In other news our library christmas dinner on Friday was without doubt the worst meal I have ever (not) eaten. I refused to pay the balance on stringy turkey, missing bacon, roasted to death potatoes and black (literally) yorkshires -who has yorkshires with turkey? Followed by cheesecake which tasted like margarine. It was disgusting.
I'm also trying not to get upset by some of my oldest friends not coming to my wedding (not the teachers btw) and not even having a reason why they can't make it. STUFF them!!!
Tommorow I am aiming to complete my Christmas shopping. If I succeed, my reward shall be lazing in bed/on the sofa most of Sunday with tasty food whilst admiring our (frankly gorgeous) newly decorated living room from a prone position. Then I am going to see the Golden Compass. It will be interesting to see how they convey the story without mentioning the church at all but the trilogy are some of my favourite books so I can't wait!
Woot for the weekend.
I have had the most marvelous weekend. On Saturday I left S with the floor sander and some goggles and was in town for quarter to nine. I blitzed the shops before they got packed and managed to track down some perfect cushions for our new livingroom and also lots of presents for S's stocking plus my first pair of maternity trousers...sooo comfy. On my return to a very dusty house it transpired that the tool hire company had not given us enough sander disks, without which we wouldn't be able to finish the floor that weekend. So, tired and quite ratty I turned around and drove the 25 minutes back to town to pick some more up. Whilst out I had a mysterious text telling me that if I could stay out until half past one it would be worth my while. So I went to poundland and nearly bought a hideous wicker reindeer and did buy some lights for our tree.
Then I drove all the way home again feeling sick and knackered and in need of chocolate. I walked in the door and saw A PIANO sat in our dining room and three of my best best friends. The little rascals had found this beautiful old piano, hired a van and then nearly ruptured themselves heaving it into our house as our wedding present! I was so overwhelmed I really didn't know what to say but it has to rank up there as one of the best (and most unexpected) gifts ever. They are also paying for a tuner to come and er...tune it nearer the wedding. I have never been so suprised in my whole life I don't think.
So, that was great and then S worked like a trojan and finished the floors and it looks gorgeous and all being well by Wednesday I will have a swanky and fabulous new livingroom (complete with dimming spotlights and glass shelves).
Yesterday we went to scope out our new wedding venue. Its a Jacobean Manor with a beautiful wooden hall. We are going to have ivy, fat church candles, piles of satsumas and pommegranates and lots of star shaped fairy lights. We had lunch there too and stuffed ourselves with huge crisp yorkshire puddings and delicious roast beef....yum.
Then we pootled off home via the metro centre to try on wedding rings...so much to do!
Anyway, I am two pounds heavier this week and am hoping this is baby related rather than yorkshire pudding related. For the first time ever in my life I don't care about putting on weight, its great!
Did you ever meet someone who talked for hours and hours but actually said very little? Today I had a meeting with the most arty farty, vague, daydreaming man and it annoyed me intensely. I mean, I am all for fluid and flexible project work but the end of the day I like to have a teeny weeny idea of what I shall be doing before I turn up and make a fool out of myself. I gritted me teeth.
Tonight we are off to see the annual Gilbert and Sullivan that S's Grandpa performs in his amateur group in Whitley Bay. I'm quite excited about this but the rest of the family (who have after all been privy to this tradition every year) tell me its not the best way to spend the evening!
Eee gads I am wrecked today. This is because I just couldn't sleep last night, I think I managed about two hours. And as the night before was the hen do I didn't get much then either. So, the hen night...I bet you are all eager to know how it went...Well, the dinner was just lovely. Quite expensive but tasty nevertheless and we practised catching eggs on the top of a chefs hat. Sadly it appears that Newcastle has banned hen dos from all the nicer bars and so we ended up in Buffulo Joes which has got to be the most revolting pub in the world. I felt pretty old to be honest and I also struggled with the fact that I was sitting next to the 'mothers' at dinner and so didn't get to meet any of the other girls who were all uni friends of the hen until after dinner. Trying to chat to people you don't know in a very noisy bar is taxing. God I sound old!
Anyway the hen had a good time I think and I managed to sneak away at about 12 ish and meet up with S for a cheeky snog before leaving him to boozehound it up on the corresponding stag do whilst I got a taxi home to bed. S arrived back in the early hours and by the morning was feeling very very unwell. I spent the rest of the day tending to him and reading my book (the tenderness of wolves -not sure what to make of it just yet). He was recovered by about 6pm so we had yummy roast chicken and watched Blood Diamond on dvd which I actually really enjoyed.
Tonight, I shall mostly be sleeping...
Today I am wearing a black and white stripey long sleeve t shirt and I feel a little bit like a pirate. And a humbug.
Anyway, this week has not been great so far. Some of you may remember my mum's cousin who was diagnosed with lung cancer (and never smoked in her life) around Easter time. Well, she died on Wednesday after being ill for such a short period of time that we all feel like we haven't said goodbye. So that was pretty sad to be honest and I was so hoping that she would be able to come to our wedding.
Tonight I must clean the house which seriously seems to have a team of squirrels who mess it up each week, shedding hair in the bath and leaving crumbs on the floor. I shall be gathering my strength for tomorrow night when I am attending the hen do for the wedding S is a best man for in a couple of weeks time. We are going apparently to the sleaziest club in newcastle so I will have to be very drunk. I am praying that I won't have to wear bunny ears or a plastic willy on my head or something. Gah.
