Gar, I haven't posted for ages.

I dunno why, but I in my head (and very probably in real life too), nothing I do seems terrible interesting anymore.  Or blogworthy.  Perhaps it never was.

Anyway, its bloody cold here and we are waiting for snow.  The sky is looking very very grey.  Jacob has some cute little bear paw mittens which of course he absolutely hates.  He also hates his buggy.  Sometimes.  Depending on his mood/time of day/threat of snow.  Thus often I can often be seen holding a chirpy, wiggly, heavy baby in one arm and pushing the buggy with the other in order to avoid a scene.  Gar, what to do...

He's had his first food today.  Fruit puree and he possibly got a teeny little bit in his mouth accidently whilst smearing it everywhere.  He turned his nose up at baby rice, and having tasted it I don't blame him!

Rightho - back to the washing up (such a lovely glamourous life).

Asda deathmatch

Why oh why are old people so horrid?

In the Asda carpark today an old trout with a plastic head scarf was stood in front of the trolley park smoking a fag (the fact that the trolley park is nowhere near the mother and baby  spaces is another rant entirely, as is the 4 spaces for cars with children out of a car park of about 300.)  Anyway as I sprinted to the covered trolley park thing with baby J, trying to avoid the rain she did not move out of the way.  So I had to dodge around her and her cloud of billowing smoke.  After I had strapped J into the baby seat of the trolley I attempted to reverse the trolley out of the park.  I accidently bumped the old trout with my back, not with the trolley because she would not move out of the way.  I imediately said how sorry I was and she mumbled something accusing at me.  I apologised again and she just turned her back mumbling more expletives.

I left, but I felt like 'accidently' running over he foot with the trolley.

Anyway, J and I completed our shopping without squawking and shouting and as I left the store I paused momentarily at one side to pull up the hood of J's coat as it was still raining.  At which point another old trout barged past me shouting that she was in a hurry.

I might start ordering my shopping online.

Halloween

On Friday night I carved a haunted house pumpkin and poured the huge bag of mini treats into a bowl for the kids round our way.  4 came.  We ate the rest of the chocolate ourselves.  All the children commented on my lantern (obviously unprompted by me!) and asked if I had bought it.  Can you even buy ready carved pumpkins?

Anyway, that was pretty much the highlight of the weekend.  Oh, apart from Ikea on Sunday where I carried the babe in the sling which was perhaps not the best idea as he now weighs nearly 18lbs and it nearly killed my back.  He loved Ikea though except he kept trying to grab items and put them in his mouth as we went round.

Putting things in his mouth is par for the course these days.

2 Years

This day two whole years ago I was thinking what to wear for a first date (skinny jeans - ha!  Those were the days, boots and a sloppy black jumper).  It was a Sunday and I went to a pub in Jesmond and met a boy who was quite hungover from the night before.  We had a couple of drinks and he talked alot of nonsense and gobbledegook because his brain was addled with beer.

Then I went home and thought maybe I would see him again (and I did, on halloween, for pumpkin carving).  Two years later we are married and parents!  Mental.

That is all.

Tough week

Last weekend I got a sickness bug, then S caught it.  We were both throwing up and trying to look after a very grumpy baby.  By Monday morning S was being sick every 15 minutes and was very very ill -confused, clammy, weak and breathless and although he told me not to, I called an ambulance.  He was admitted to hospital with full blown ketoacidosis because his diabetes had gone haywire (aggrivated by the bug) and was seriously ill.  He was very muddled and shaking continously.  MIL and I swapped the crying baby between us so we could sit with him.

After about 4 hours he was stable and was transferred to a ward where he stayed for 4 days until all the toxins had cleared his system.  He came home last night.

Luckily my parents drove the 300 odd miles to stay with me whilst he was admitted, without their help I couldn't have coped.  They babysat whilst I visited S and did cooking and laundry for me.  I was continually driving to the hospital or trying to get a stressed, screaming baby to sleep/eat/stop crying or running errands for S or taking the baby to the Drs (twice, once for jabs -nice timing).

I never actually cried myself except in the car driving home from hospital each night, I felt like I had to hold it together even though I was exhausted and recovering from being poorly myself.  I hate being apart from S and have never spent any longer than one night not with him.  4 nights was a challenge.

He's on the mend now though but it was a terrifying experience I have no desire to repeat.  I was torn between a seriously ill husband and a screaming 4 mth old.  Tough times.

(I did lose 5 lbs -but so NOT worth it).

Last week I got a new buggy.  The one that was delivered to my door and which I signed for without noticing was actually worth about a hundred and fifty squids more than the one that I really ordered and the one we actually paid for.  Result.  Once I mastered putting it up and down (no easy task) I have decided that I am very pleased with it.

My sister and my parents visited at different times last week.  My sis hadn't seen the little stinker since he was two days old so obviously she noticed a massive change.  She even accompanied me to baby signing class where she could be seen making cow noises and prancing about in a circle.  She's finished her thesis now and is just waiting for the viva.  She knows everything there is to know about bees.  She's got a brilliant research job in Atlanta (as in AMERICA) which she starts for three years after Christmas.  I'm sad about that but also quite excited at the prospect of visiting the largest aquarium in the world which houses a real live Whale Shark -woot.

My parents did the Great North Run for the 4th year and got their best time ever of 2.27.  Considering they are 61, I think that is pretty aces.

Oh, and I've discovered that home made toad in the hole is very delicious.  But not condusive to weight loss.

Panic

Seriously having a child just brings a whole new level of worry that I didn't even know existed.

Today I took Junior to be weighed (we go about every two weeks).  We were late because S had accidently locked us in the house and he had to come home and let us out.  So I was already rattled when we arrived at the surgery.  For those of you who don't know, babies have weight charts where ideally they should find a growth curve and then stick to it.

The health visitor said that the scales had been a bit dodge but that she thought they were sorted now.  J was stripped nekkid (no weeing incident like there was last time) and plonked on the scales.  The HV said that he had lost a bit of weight and I felt like she had punched me in the stomach.  It was a horrible horrible feeling that J might not be doing as well as he should, he's only a baby.

Anyway, she decided to re weigh him on another set of scales and lo, he had actually put on the required amount of weight (he's now 16lb 1oz -the little chubba).  Phew.  I swallowed my heart back down and got him dressed.

Another week has zoomed past...

Another week has zoomed past with some more firsts.  Jacob's first swim was a success I think.  I got some horrid splashy 10 year olds thrown out of the baby pool after J got a face full of water and after that he seemed to enjoy bobbing about.  I suspect he just thought it was a very big bath! He didn't poo either which was a bonus but he was a little bit sick which I subtly dispersed in the water when the lifegaurd wasn't looking. He slept so well afterwards too, he must have worn himself out.

He's also started 'chatting' ALL the time (including 3am).

My weekend

Was lovely actually.  On Saturday we were meant to be taking Junior swimming for the first time.  Luckily I took the precaution of trying his little wetsuit on him before we set off for the pool.  He was too big (chubba) for it!  So I've swapped it for 6-12 months instead so we are set to try again next Saturday.  As we were at a loose end we popped into town and had some yummy cheese scones in the John Lewis cafe.  Having a pushchair makes you see shop layouts in a whole new way.  I know know where has good baby change facilities, room between tables for buggies and where the lifts are!  It certainly gives you an appreciation of what a pain in the ass being in a wheelchair must be.

Then we went home and had a yummy chinese takeaway and some champagne, just because we could and because we have a few bottles left from our wedding.

On Sunday we were out for lunch with the MIL and then to S's grandparents.  Jacob laughed for a good 5 minutes at Grandpa, I don't know if it was his face or his voice, but he found him hilarous.  Laughing is his new thing and it is super cute.

Oh, and Jacob has slept through the night for the last 3 nights.  Yipppeeeeeee!
